The Newcastle Development Association has awarded a community grant to the ADHD Hub in Newcastle, providing valuable support for an organisation which has become an important source of information, understanding and practical support for people and families.

The ADHD Hub was established in response to a clear need within the local community. For many families, living with ADHD can bring challenges that extend well beyond a diagnosis, with parents and carers often having to navigate education, health and support services while also trying to find the right help for their children.

The Hub provides a welcoming environment where families can access information, meet others with shared experiences and find a sense of community.

Located in Newcastle, the ADHD Hub has developed into a grassroots resource for the local community, offering an opportunity for people affected by ADHD to come together in a supportive and understanding environment.

The Newcastle Development Association grant will help the Hub continue its work and contribute towards the costs involved in maintaining and developing its services.

Newcastle Development Association, said:

“The Newcastle Development Association is delighted to support the ADHD Hub and the important work it is doing within our community.

“The Hub was created because local families identified a genuine need for somewhere they could find information, support and, perhaps most importantly, understanding.

“Community organisations such as the ADHD Hub play an incredibly important role. They bring people together, reduce isolation and provide practical support at a local level. We are pleased that our grant can help the Hub continue and develop this valuable work.”

The Newcastle Development Association believes that supporting organisations such as the ADHD Hub is an investment in the wider Newcastle community.

By supporting locally based initiatives which respond directly to the needs of residents, the Association is helping strengthen the network of community organisations available to people in the town.

The grant will allow the ADHD Hub to continue developing as a valuable local resource and to look towards the future with the aim of reaching and supporting even more people affected by ADHD.

The post Newcastle Development Association Supports Newcastle ADHD Hub with Community Grant first appeared on Newcastle development Association.

The Newcastle Development Association has awarded a grant to Active Stars, a parent-led charity supporting young adults with severe learning disabilities in the Newcastle and Castlewellan area, helping the organisation develop a new weekly programme of inclusive fitness, social activities and peer support.

The funding will help Active Stars provide regular opportunities for young adults with complex learning disabilities to be active, build friendships and develop greater confidence and independence, while also creating an important support network for their parents and carers.

For many young adults with severe learning disabilities, opportunities to take part in inclusive activities within their local community can be limited. Social isolation can be a significant challenge, while families and carers can themselves feel isolated and have few opportunities to connect with others who understand the realities of caring for someone with complex needs.

Active Stars was established by parents who recognised the need for more opportunities for their young people to get active, socialise and belong within their local community.

The new programme will include supported gym sessions tailored to the individual needs and abilities of participants, alongside structured social opportunities in a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment.

The aim is not simply to provide exercise, but to create a regular routine and a place where participants can meet friends, develop new skills and feel part of their community.

[Name/Title from Newcastle Development Association] said:

“The Newcastle Development Association is delighted to support Active Stars and the important work they are doing with young adults and their families. This is a fantastic example of a locally-led initiative responding to a real need within our community. By helping create opportunities for people to be active, make friends and feel included, Active Stars is making a positive difference to both participants and their families.”

The grant will contribute towards venue hire, specialist coaching staff, transport, equipment and core running costs, helping ensure that the programme remains accessible to families and can develop into a sustainable long-term community resource.

The anticipated benefits extend well beyond physical fitness. Participants will have opportunities to improve their physical health, confidence, communication and social skills, while developing friendships and a greater sense of belonging.

For parents and carers, Active Stars also provides something equally important: peer support. Being able to meet other families with similar experiences can reduce isolation, provide practical and emotional support, and improve overall wellbeing.
